Gajendra Chauhan heckled at Makhanlal Varsity; says it is democratic

BHOPAL : “The protest by the students symbolises that democracy is still alive”, said Gajendra Chauhan, director, FTII after facing protest by students along with slogans like ‘ Gajendra Chauhan Murdabad’ at the orientation program of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and communication at Samanvay Bhawan.

The orientation programme of the journalism university witnessed the presence of controversial Gajendra Chauhan who said that media should avoid using any negative news as a publicity tool as it kills real journalism. While addressing the students he said, “An actor is made from these five words: action, concentration, timing, originality and reality. Not only for an actor, but these five words determine a person”. Quoting Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, he said that he was a positive person and that only distinguished him from rest of the

world. “During the seven months of protest against me, I kept silent and positive and today I stand here representing as the director of FTII”, he added. Anand Agase, former editor, Sakal, a Marathi daily motivated the students saying that the print media is expected to see a growth of 9 per cent, which increases the responsibility of students to maintain the quality work.

VC slaps student

Gajendra Chauhan was invited as the chief guest for the first day of orientation, where few students started shouting slogans against him with black flags. The students questioned the intentions of the university and of Vice Chancellor on saffronisation of a journalism university. Losing control into the matter, Vice Chancellor, Brij Kishore Kuthiyala allegedly slapped a student named Arijit after pulling him with collars, out of the hall. The seven accused students were then kept in a room for about half hour, till Gajendra Chauhan left the auditorium. While talking to media, Gajendra Chauhan said that protests are not new for him but this proves that democracy is still alive.
