The forest department has dropped its plan to use drones to trace out wild animals in and around the city. Though, forest department teams are still in field to trace out wild animals or to ascertain if they had moved to the forest. Recently a Panther was sighted at the airport while a bear had ventured into Police Training Academy- Kanha Saiya on November 13.The same panther was spotted in School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal (SPA Bhopal).
Forest department pressed it teams to trace these animals. Besides, it had a plan to use drone for the said purpose. But even after ten days, no animal has been traced. According to forest department officials, plan to use drone has been dropped out. Teams are still in field for tracing the animals as it is feared that they may attack or venture out in residential colonies.
In February, a bear had attacked local residents leaving six injured in Nabi Bagh. The bear was spotted in Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CIAE) premises. Kaliasot dam, located on the outskirts of the capital Bhopal, has been a hotspot for tiger sightings. SDO (forest) Ravi Khude said, “Earlier, forest department had a plan to use drone. But it has been dropped for the time being due to certain reasons. Our teams are still in field and working round the clock to trace out panther, bear spotted or sighted in outskirts.”
