Foreign tourists create ruckus at Khajuraho

BHOPAL: Tourists visiting Madhya Pradesh are facing problems with the central government’s decision to withdraw the legal tender status of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes. Foreign tourists, on Wednesday created ruckus at Khajuraho. They tendered Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes for buying tickets to visit the temple complex but were aghast when their notes were not accepted. Police was called in to sort out the matter.

There were similar scenes at other tourist places across the state. Tourists at Pachmarhi, Mandu and in national parks in the state had to hunt for Rs 100 notes to pay entry charges. Many tourists were forced to cut short their tours. The tourists from the state are also returning back. The ATMs not working at tourist places have also impacted tourism. With banks not working and ATMs not operational, the tourists are facing difficulties in getting cash.
