Focus on maintaining peace; providing relief to farmers: CM

BHOPAL : Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, through video-conferencing at Mantralaya on Monday, directed all Collectors, Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Divisional Commissioners to ensure arrangements of fool-proof law and order situation in their respective districts, considering the upcoming religious occasions including Moharram, Vijayadashmi and Devi Visarjan.

Chauhan directed them to convene meetings of peace committees and decide about the routes of processions taken out on Muharram, Devi Visarjan and Dussehra with cooperation and consensus. Chauhan directed Collectors and SPs to visit those areas where there is any possibility of tension and take necessary action after mutual dialogue. He also urged public representatives and district in-charge ministers to give full cooperation to district administration in this work and maintain continuous communication with concerned communities and distinguished citizens.

Chief Minister Chauhan directed to identify sensitive areas in advance. He said public representatives and administrative officials need to be alert. The officers linked to law and order will not be given leave on these occasions, except in emergency.

Discussing the crisis on farmers due to deficient rains, Chauhan said the government stands with the farmers in times of crisis and also taking steps to help them. A request letter will soon be sent to the Central government for help and relief to the farmers. All Collectors have been asked to send necessary information in this regard in fixed format by October 15. Chauhan directed Collectors to extend maximum benefit of provisions of Crop Insurance Scheme to the farmers. He said farmers could be helped if the process of crop reaping is done properly. The information of crop reaping should be uploaded by November 15 so that relief could be released. All necessary formalities related to benefits from Agriculture Insurance India Limited Company should be completed by October 30. He directed Collectors to continuously inform local public representatives in this connection.

Speaking on drought, Chauhan said to start using methods to arrest water like ‘Bori Bandhan’ in every district. Adequate arrangements for drinking water would be made in drought affected areas. All efforts would be made to ensure that farmers get benefits of Rabi crop. He said there is adequate water in water bodies for irrigation and Rabi crops could be irrigated in 28 lakh hectares and there is adequate storage of fertilizers. He said if any one found doing black marketing, strict action would be taken. He also asked Collectors to take innovative steps to give maximum benefits to farmers as per the requirement of their respective districts.
