FDA destroys Gutkha, adulterated mawa worth Rs 16 lakh

BHOPAL : Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has destroyed gutka, mawa and others items worth Rs 16 lakh on Tuesday. Earlier, FDA team seized a consignment of gukta worth Rs 5 lakh from Kabitpura under Tilajamalpura police station. The consignment was seized from Kabitpura-based godown of Sachin Sahu.

As festival season is approaching, FDA has intensified its drive against adulterated items being sold to customers in the market. Simultaneously, the team has also kicked off drive against gutka which has been banned.

FDA inspector DK Verma said, “We seized gutka worth Rs 5 lakh from a godown of Sachin Sahu. The godown was at Kabitpura under Tilajamalpura police station. Besides, we destroyed gukta, adulterated and spurious mawa and other items worth Rs16 lakh at our headquarter premises.”

“The state government had banned on the sale of in Madhya Pradesh from first day of financial year. Health Minister Narottam Mishra had announced in the Assembly that the licenses of gutka companies in the state would be cancelled. The state government had also proposed a penalty of up to Rs. 25,000 on anyone found selling tobacco-mixed gutka. However, the state government had not imposed any ban on the sale of plain gutka”, he added.

“FDA team continued its drive all over the state to discourage the sell of the gukta, adulterated mawa, and other food items,” he added.
