BHIKANGAON : Thousands of farmers whose crops were damaged due to insufficient rainfalls staged demonstration under the leadership of area MLA Sachin Yadav and Jhuma Solanki on Monday. The farmers were also irked at the falls assessments of the damaged crops, delay and irregularities in the distribution of compensation to the affected farmers.
The agitating farmers took out protest rally from the various streets before assembling at Shaheed Smarak and demanded that the entire tehsil and district be declared as drought-hit region, and all the affected farmers be given compensation as per the govt rules.
MLA Sachin Yadav, district Congress president and MLA Jhuma Solanki, former district panchayat president Totaram Majhajan, district general secretary Anil Jaiswal and Jitendra Singh Rawat addressed the gatherings.
Sgeru Dhangar, a farmer from Borgaon villager, said that he had cultivated chillies in 22 acre land and all his crops got damaged. But his name was not included in the list of compensation. The same case was with Chunnilal Gander, whose chillies were cultivated in 40 acre land that was damaged. The director of Shankargaon co-operative society and former member of Janpad Ganpat Gurjar blamed that patwaris that they did not properly assess the damaged crops.
Later, agitating farmers submitted a memorandum, written in the name of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to SDM SP Singh. They demanded that the entire district be declared as drought-hit. The memorandum was read out by programme convener Shantilal Mukati and Prashant Gangrade proposed the vote of thanks.
