KHANDWA : Regional markets have been affected this Diwali due to the dwindling purchasing powers of farmers who were severely affected due to the recent errant weather conditions, statewide and online shops have further added to the woes of the regional markets. Automobile, jewellery, electronics, readymade garments shops etc are witnessing diminishing footfalls throughout the state this Diwali.
Reportedly, gold is at its lowest price as compared to the past four years and the regional Sarafa markets are also going through the same situation. Further, the prevailing situation has also affected the real estate business.
Notably, online shops have added woes to regional businessmen as these shopping sites attract a sizable number of customers, especially from urban areas. As of now, several online stores including Amazon, SnapDeal, Flipkart and Jabong are catering almost all amenities and commodities including shoes, jewellery, readymade garments, medicines and electronic accessories etc that has created a massive downfall of customers in regional markets.
Notably, around Rs 5 crore is being speculated to be incurred by a single online store in a month. Regional customers are the backbone of regional markets. Following the prevailing crisis, regional markets are going through severe shortage of customers’.
