Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): State BJP president VD Sharma and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw submitted a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan on Monday.
They requested that the last date to deposit the form 12 D, which allows voters of more than 80 years of age and Divyangto vote from home, should be extended. The present date is October 26.
Both of them were of the view that as time was short, many of them will not be able to take benefit of Election Commission’s initiative to vote from home. Hence, the date to deposit form 12 D should be extended.
They also demanded that the applications received under the facility to vote from home should be reviewed and a campaign be conducted to make voters aware about the facility.
Later, interacting with media persons, VD Sharma said Election Commission’s move to allow voters of above 80 years of age and divyang to cast the vote from home needed publicity.
The total number of voters above 80 years of age and divyang is 11.50 lakh in the state.
