Bhopal: Former chief minister Digvijaya Singh’s statement in Indore that money and agents play an important role in transfer and postings of collectors and SPs has triggered a debate in the corridors of power. His remark is seen as an attack on former and present chief secretaries and the previous BJP government. During tenure of Shivraj Singh Chouhan as chief minister, Vijay Singh, Rakesh Shahni, Avani Vaisya, R Parshuram and Antony D’Sa were the chief secretaries. Similarly, VP Singh has been working as chief secretary for two years.
Digvijaya Singh made allegations against these people, because the chief secretary plays an important role in posting a collector. One of the former chief secretaries is reportedly close to chief minister Kamal Nath, and that bureaucrat has played an important in the recent administrative reshuffle, so the allegation has sparked resentment among the officers.
An officer, requesting anonymity, said, “It is easy to make such allegations without proof.” He also said money had no role in transfers and postings during the rule of the previous government. The current administrative reshuffle also raised many questions, he said. However, no BJP leader has so far lodged any complaint against Singh for his comment. Besides, those who were made collectors during the BJP are also silent on the issue.
