BHOPAL : The Ekta Parishad ended its agitation of a four-day fast and sit-in at Neelam Park on Wednesday. The farmers and members of tribal communities from 37 districts across the state took part in the sit-in, conducted in support of demand of land and forest rights.
A memorandum addressed to the chief minister was submitted followed by a general rally, which started from Shahjahani Park and concluded at Neelam Park.
Environmentalist and Gandhian Rajgopal PV addressing the rally alleged that government is turning farmers into beggars by evicting them from their lands. He said we need to protest against development at the cost of making landowners, landless. He said development by snatching livelihood of people should not be accepted. He demanded grant of forest and land rights to people.
Ekta Parishad National President Ran Singh Parmar said the development, which is based on neglecting poor, could not lead to non-violent society.
He said any development done by ignoring the interests of poor would lead to feeling of resentment in society. He said we need to continue our non-violent movement till landless get land.
