BHOPAL : With monsoon, Dengue and Malaria has started knocking at the doors of the city. Three dengue and 16 malaria positive cases have been detected in the city to date. . The malaria department has fastened its seat belts as the number of dengue and malaria has started rising. Since January, 12 dengue cases have been reported and the three new cases are said to be from outside Bhopal.
Presently, 21 survey teams are working in city for destroying mosquito larvae. The department has plans to increase this number to 28. The spraying of pyrethrum has yet not begun in the city. Focusing on key areas like Kolar, Saket Nagar, TT Nagar and Nehru Nagar, the survey teams are spraying pyrethrum in these areas first. 1140 houses were surveyed on Wednesday, in which about 250 houses were found to have larvae. “It is just the inception and stagnation will begin now, which will give ideal ambience for fostering of larvae”, said DMO Akhilesh Dubey
Gambusia fish, which destroys larvae by feeding upon them, will be used to destroy the larvae in big water tanks. Till now, gambusia was suggested to people for their personal tanks but now malaria department is considering using them in big water tanks as well. “We are thinking upon it and if all goes well, we might use them. They have proven to be useful to many. In fact, 40 people have taken gambusia home from department office in this month”, said Dubey.
The malaria department will be organising a Malaria awareness rally on Thursday from Kilol Park via Polytechnic, Rangmahal, Jawahar Chowk, TT Nagar and Dussehra Maidan to aware people about the spread of malaria and dengue.
