BHOPAL: On Monday, the twelfth day of demonetisation, smaller queues were seen for exchanging money at banks though the cash-crunch still continues.

“This is our first visit to a bank for exchanging notes. We had to wait in queue for half-an-hour. I think the crowd has thinned because of the lowering of the exchange limit to Rs 2000 and also the decision to use indelible ink. I got Rs 2000 in Rs 100 notes. They are giving the new Rs 500 notes if we withdraw money from our accounts, not in exchange,”  said Naveen Goswami, a businessman, who had come to SBI, T.T. Nagar  from MP Nagar, adding that, “We do need more money but what to do. We can’t exchange more that Rs 2000. Also, we can’t withdraw more than Rs 2,500 from ATM.”

Similarly, 84-year-old Girish Kumar, who had reached Dena Bank, TT Nagar from Shastri Nagar, said “I came here to deposit money for the first time. Mujhe ratti bhar bhi pareshani nahi hui. Logon ko shikayat karne ki aadat ho gayi hai…”

“Yes, it true that there is the crowd for exchanging money is lesser than earlier but the process is so lengthy that people are getting fed up. We are wasting our precious time for only Rs 2000.

ye bahut akharta hai…,” says Ankit Garg, an engineering student who came to exchange notes at PNB, T.T. Nagar from Saket Nagar. Similarly, 65-year-old Reena Verma, who visited SBI T.T. Nagar from Nehru Nagar said, “I came here to get my cheques cleared and my work was done within 30 minutes. But those who are coming to deposit, exchange and withdraw money are being forced to wait for longer. It is pathetic.”
