Debt burden per person in state rises by Rs 2,000

BHOPAL : The financial crunch in the state was disclosed on Friday through a written question raised by MLA Ramnivas Rawat in the ongoing budget session of the State Assembly. The state government has borrowed a sum of Rs 16,000 crore this year. Finance Minister Jayant Malaiya informed the House that there is a debt of Rs 72113.39 crore as on March 31,2014 which would rise to Rs 88,103 crore by 2015.

The quantum of per person debt, which was pegged at Rs 9929 in 2014, would rise to more than Rs 12,000 this year. According to information furnished by Malaiya, the state borrowed a sum of Rs 16,000 crore this year and it is expected that Rs 7,000 crore would be charged as its interest. The amount of debt taken by the state this year is the highest it had taken in the past 11 years.
