Katthiwada : Crops of 26 villages of 8 panchayats are in danger of severe damage due to lack of irrigation. Farmers have been unable to pump water because of low power voltage. Farmers of these villages met the district engineer of electricity department.
The area has standing crop of maize and paddy and is in dire need of irrigation but the area has received very scanty rainfall which is only a third of average rainfall. The farmers are thus dependent upon wells and ponds and other sources but due to very low voltage they are unable to use pump sets. Villagers say that it has become impossible to operate pump-sets. A farmer of village Dhyana said that power supply is frequently disrupted.
Hundreds of farmers of village Panchayat Katthiwada, Dhyana, Khamadka, Ambar, Kawacha, Moti Badoi, Sajanpur and Indalawat met the district engineer of electricity department on Wednesday and informed him about the problems. The chief executive engineer, who was also present on this occasion, gave assurance that the problem will be solved soon. The district engineer LR Ahirwar said that a capacitor will be installed at Amkhut area to solve the problem of low voltage.
