Dial-100 declines help; driver, conductor held; bus seized
BHOPAL : In a case of extreme callousness, bordering on the inhuman, a critically ill woman, along with her husband and five-day-old child was thrown out in the middle of nowhere from a bus in the Damoh district on Saturday morning. The woman died later. The police have arrested the driver and conductor of the bus and seized the vehicle. The Home Minister has ordered cancellation of the permit of the bus and the driving license of the driver.
CSP, Damoh Rajan informed Free Press that Maldi Bai of village Ghuwari, Chhattarpur had delivered a baby at home. Since then she was severely ill. Her husband Ram Singh and his mother, along with their five-day-old baby, boarded a bus on Saturday morning for Damoh, where they proposed to get the woman examined by a doctor.
When the bus neared the Narsinghgarh area, the woman who was in severe pain, started crying. The driver and the conductor stopped the bus and ordered all of them to get down as they were causing ‘disturbance’. Their request that they should be dropped near a hospital was also turned down.
The woman died soon thereafter.
A passerby reported the matter to Dail-100. A Dail-100 vehicle reached the spot but did not help the family. Finally the issue was brought to the notice of senior district officials. Arrangements were then made to take the family to a hospital but by then it was too late.
On the instructions of the home minister Bhupendra Thakur, the police have registered a case under section 336 and 304 of IPC against the driver Amar Yadav and conductor Sharda Sen. They have been arrested. The police have also seized the bus. The process of cancellation of bus permit and the driving license of the driver has been initiated.
