Indore :A 37-year-old criminal attempted suicide in the lock up of Annapurna police station on Saturday. CSP (Annapurna) Sunil Patidar said that Manish Sharma, a resident of Banganga area was caught by local residents while entering a godown of electric goods in Usha Nagar area around 1 pm for theft and was later handed over to the police.

He was lodged in the lock-up of the police station and was spotted by a cop, when he was trying to strangulate himself with an iron chain attached with the hand calf at around 6 pm in the lock-up. The policeman alerted other officials and foiled his suicide bid by snatching the chain from him.

Police immediately rushed him to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. According to police, the accused is not in a condition to give any statement. Sources claimed that the condition of Manish is critical while police said that he is out of danger.

Manish has around 20 criminal cases, including robbery, theft and other crimes registered with various police station of the city.
