Crime graph up because of population growth: Gaur

BHOPAL : Home and Jail Minister Babulal Gaur has said that 21 districts of Madhya Pradesh are under the watch for SIMI-related terror activities. The districts are Bhopal, Rajgarh, Sehore, Harda, Hoshangabad, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Shajapur, Dhar, Neemuch, Seoni, Indore, Badwani, Ujjain, Jhabalpur, Narsinghpur, Dewas, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Guna and Shivpuri.

Replying to questions, Gaur told media persons that the state government had cracked down on SIMI network. Total 28 SIMI activists are in jail. Abu Faijal, Khalid Ahmad, Irfan Nagori and others who had linked with Indian Mujahidin, were nabbed by the ATS. He said one of the six SIMI activities, who had escaped from Khandwa jail was nabbed. Search is on for remaining five by the state police as well as the central intelligence agencies.

The minister said implementation of the police commissioner system was still under consideration.

On a question about the rising crime graph in MP, the minister said crime rate was increasing in proportion with the population and it would go up as population increases. He said the number of crimes reported from MP was higher because the state police files FIR in each case and later launches investigations. He said in cases of woman-related crimes, FIRs are filed first. The government had adopted zero tolerance policy against crimes against women and had put the cases in fast track courts. It resulted in 17 capital punishments and life imprisonment in 231 cases in a year.

Conviction rate in serious crimes too has gone up to 30 percent, the minister said. Gaur said anti-dacoity cell gunned down four dacoits in 16 encounters this year and arrested 466 dacoits. Fourteen naxalites were arrested in anti-naxal operation.

The minister said State police was not getting reports from STF in Vyapam scam cases as the investigating agency was now under control of SIT now and High Court.

Gaur said, the government had signed MoUs with six industrial units for providing security force after formation of state industrial security force. They are charged annually. The force deputed in police stations has been segregated for law and order and crime investigation. At present, 634 posts have been set for

Role of Piplani TI in bribe case under scanner

The Home Minister said probe was underway against Piplani inspector Subodh Tomar after an ASI of his thana was arrested red-handed by Special Police Investigation while accepting Rs 1 lakh bribe. Action will be taken against police inspector only of he is found to have played any role in the bribe case.

Gaur said, the police had worked out a compromise between Iranis and Sunnis in after a minor dispute. However, one of the parties broke the compromise and created disturbance. Strong action will be taken against them.

Indore jail superintendent to be removed

The minister said Indore jail superintendent will be removed following a revolver being found in the jail. He said other staff responsible for security lapse had been removed.
