BHOPAL: Non-functional ATMs and the fact that banks will remain closed on Guru Nanak Jayanti on Monday robbed the charm of Sunday for the city residents. People waited in queues from morning till evening instead of spending time with their family members. The news that ATMs will not become functional for a couple of weeks made the people panicky as the government had assured that ATMs would start working from November 11.

ATMs continued to be non-functional on Sunday leaving people high and dry. A few of them dispensed money for a brief period but most of the time they were useless.

People queued up at ATMs of various banks for withdrawing cash from morning. They also joined queue at various banks as Monday has been declared holiday on Gurunanak Jayanti.

People said that when government knows that people are dependent on ATMs for cash withdrawal so it should have upgraded the ATMs first before demonetisation.

Prabhakar Tripathi

“I was in queue at ATM but did not get money. I came to know in noon, it was working so I came here but now again server is reported to be down so we are not getting money.”

Altaf Khan

“Non-functioning of ATM is big headache for people who have no other option but to join the queue for exchanging notes. Bankers too are over burdened. When government knows that mostly people are dependent on ATMs for cash withdrawal so first of all, it should have upgraded ATMs before demonetisation.”

Deepak Deshmukh

“As Monday is holiday in Banks so it is problematic. Secondly, currencies of Rs 2000 denomination is not serving the purpose of people as far as market is concerned as traders are not in position to return the money in form of Rs 100.”

Krishna Singh

“Just before one hour, ATM was working. My friend withdrew Rs 2,000 but right now it is not working. Government should have upgraded and calibrated the ATMs for regular dispensing the money.”

Raju Yadav

“There is very long queue of customers at the bank. Bankers told me to come after lunch. From the morning, people are in queue for getting invalidated currency notes exchanged. My entire Sunday was wasted and I could get only Rs 4000 exchanged. I also tried at ATMs which did not dispense any currency.”

Naresh Singh

“ATMs are not working properly. This is the reason people are totally dependent on bankers for money. People are facing problems while bankers have are overburdened with work.”

Shashikant

“I visited the bank in the morning but I did not join the queue as it was very long. I thought in noon, it will be convenient but the scene was the same.  But I had no option but to join the queue.”

Nishit Patel

“I am waiting for ATM to be functional as I need money urgently. Earlier, I had exchanged Rs 4000 but I gave it to my friend now I do not have any money.  So I have to withdraw from ATMs. At least I will get Rs 2000 at a time.”

Anajali Parmar

“Right from the morning we are moving here and there for the ATM but we are not getting money. Ultimately I had to join the queue for exchanging notes. I had to spend at least two hours. It is big headache.”

Puran Prajapati

“It is problematic as we are not in a position to purchase even vegetables and things of daily use. Monday is holiday so people are in queue to get their money exchanged. I sent my son to get currency exchanged. My son went in morning and came after 2.00 pm with Rs 4000.”

Rahul Jain

“Monday is holiday in Banks so it is problematic for common man. Now we cannot get money on Monday as ATMs are not working and bank will remain closed due to Guru Nanak Jayanti.”

Prashant Singh Suman

“I have come with my wife to withdraw cash from SBI ATM but it is not working. It is highly deplorable that government did not calibrate ATMs and now I came to know that ATMs will remain non-functional for some more days.”
