Employees up in arms

TARUN SEN Bhopal: Failing to maintain pension fund of State university employees even after getting regular contribution, department of higher education has mooted to hand over the work of running the pension scheme to corporate firm SBI Life Insurance, to shun its responsibility.

The proposed move is likely to create storm in the university non teaching staff and officials who are regular employees in state- run universities.

DHE officials have invited representative of SBI Life Insurance company in a meeting on December 27, to discuss pension at par the sixth pay scale to the universities staff. At present, pension cell, operational in DHE, collects employees contribution from all state universities as per revised pay scale but is giving pension at par the old pay scale that is fifth pay scale.

This matter was one of the reasons of indefinite strike by non teaching staff of all state universities. “ We will again oppose the decision to engage the corporate firm for pension distribution,” said union leader Avinash Burbure.

Pension cell has utterly failed to maintain fund in pension corpus as it reportedly purchased furniture and vehicles from pension fund. During Digvijay’s tenure as chief minister, the government provided salary to grant- in- aid colleges from this fund. The finance department has denied fund for this extra expenditure creating imbalance.

Officials of finance department, employee union leaders will also attend the meeting for take decision on the issue related with pension.

Meeting for regularisation failed: The meeting held on Saturday to regularise employees on vacant posts, failed to take positive decision as DHE officials said two universities DAVV of Indore and BU of Bhopal did not follow reservation rosters. Proposals sent by universities for regularisation of daily wage workers, have shortcomings.
