Budget session

BHOPAL : With issue of Vyapam scam losing steam, the issues of government squandering money and woes of farmers will be primarily raised by the Congress in the budget session of the state Assembly. The previous session was of 39 days in which 24 meetings were scheduled but due to commotion on Vyapam scam, merely 7 meetings could be held.

Leader of Opposition Satyadev Katare would not be present in the budget session. Congress lacks any major issue to grill the government on. The party is going to make ferrying farmers to attend Kisan Sammelan addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a major issue. The opposition would raise issues of anomalies in distribution of compensation and incidents of suicides of farmers. Modi’s visit amidst poor financial condition of state, spending of crores in ‘Vaicharik Mahakumbh’ will also become issues to be raised.

Congress can also attack government on the issues of BJYM workers attacking the followers of Ambedkar in a seminar in Gwalior and a BJP MLA’s indecent remark on Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.

Bala Bachan, Ramnivas Rawat, Mukesh Nayak, Ajay Singh and Mahendra Singh Kalukheda will take charge of opposition in the House in the absence of Katare.

For the ruling party, it would be a tough task to dispose of government work, reply to the allegations of the opposition and respond to the issues raised against the administration by BJP MLAs.

On Monday, consensus on all issues was reached in an all-party meeting convened by Assembly Speaker Sitasharan Sharma. The government has agreed on debate on issues including farmers. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra said government intends to run the House.  He said “We are ready for debate on all issues but the opposition should also maintain decorum in the House”.

NSUI to lay siege on Assembly today

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) plans to lay a siege on the state assembly on Tuesday, demanding direct election of student unions in colleges and universities.

The state spokesperson of NSUI, Vivek Tripathi informed a press conference on Monday, that the government was conducting indirect elections and the office-bearers elected thus were unable to raise the problems of the students.

He alleged that the state government was not holding  direct elections as it did not want a leadership to emerge among the students. He also added that last year, the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had assured to bring the issue before the cabinet for consideration but it was not done.

NSUI state president Vipin Vankhede will lead the students in Tuesday’s protest. Congress MLAs will put up questions in the assembly about the elections.
