Coal rake unloading stops as labourers strike work

UMARIA : The labourers have not been given wages for coal rake unloading at Sanjay Gandhi Thermal power project so they have stopped work and started strike on August 2.

The contractual labourers said that the contractor is exploiting the labourers and do not provide salary in time. They alleged that the labourers are being threatened and the supervisor is always ready to beat them.

The labourers said that the supervisor has torn gate pass of several labourers. They also said that around 720 labourers are working as contractual labourers. The contractor deducts EPF fund from their salaries but he never gives slips. When the labourers want to get information they he refuses to give it.

They alleged that several complaints have been given to management but no action was taken so far.

Earlier, the labourers had staged sit in but there was no conclusion of it. The chief engineer AK Teller did not receive phone call when he was tried to contact.
