SHIVPURI: A clash between two sand mining contractors late on Sunday night at Andaura sand mine under Karaira police station area over royalty intensified to armed confrontation. One of the two groups opened indiscriminate fire after which panic prevailed in the area. The accused also attacked two persons with hatchet inflicting severe injuries.

The injured were taken to Datia for treatment. Karaira police registered a case and forwarded the case diary to Datia police station as the incident took place under its jurisdiction area. Karaira police have booked accused Ramesh Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Chatur Singh and Rajednra under section 307 of the IPC on the charge of attempt to murder.

According to sources, complainant Jitendra Chouhan, son of Imarat Chouhan, had gone to Andaura sand mine with Bade Raja, Shiromani Singh and his staff members. He made a payment of royalty for sand quarried from the mine. Meanwhile, Andaura resident accused Ramesh Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Chatur Singh and Rajendra also reached there and said the money being charged illegally in the name of royalty. They said the royalty charged from them was for sand mine situated at Datia in place of Andaura.

A scuffle ensued over the issue and it soon escalated to fisticuffs.  One of the accused Ramesh attacked Shiromani Singh with a hatchet. Shiromani sustained severe head injury. Another accused Chatur Singh also charged Bade Raja with an axe. Ramesh Yadav opened indiscriminate fire with his .315 bore rife leading to a chaotic situation in the mining area. The accused escaped from the spot after creating the ruckus. The injured were rushed to Datia hospital after the incident and the others accompanying them filed a case against the accused at Datia police station. The case diary was later forwarded to Karaira police.
