BHOPAL : A Sarangi player of the state capital was among nine young artists from MP, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Maharashtra felicitated in ‘Akashwani Sangeet Pratiyogita-2015’ on Friday at Samanvay Bhawan. It was part of prize distribution ceremony, organised by Akashwani Bhopal.
Chief guest, noted Tabla player Kiran Deshpandey felicitated semi classical vocalist Megha Devnath from Agartala, Sitarist Kalyan Majumdar from Kolkata, Tabla player Deepakdas Mahant from Raipur, Abhang singer Sukrut Bhashkar Tamhankar from Sangali, Marathi singer Mansi Deshpande from Nagpur), violinists Rajan Upadhyay, Rajan Upadhyay both from Pune, Gujarati singer Archit Hansmukh Patadiya from Ahmadabad and Sarangi player Waseem Khan from Bhopal. Pakhawaj player Devashish Pathak from Delhi was conferred with special prize. The prize money for special and first prizes was Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 for second prize. They also got the position as B-Grade artist in ‘Akashwani’.
After the felicitation, the felicitated artist also gave their performance which mesmerised the audience. It began with saint Tukaram Bhajan ‘Padmanabha Narayana…,’ which depicts the different forms and traits of Lord Vishnu. It was presented by Sukrut Bhashkar Tamhankar. He concluded his performance with the composition of Swami Swaroopanand ‘Sharanam Jata Ramawara….’ It was followed by violin, Tabla, Pakhwaj and Sarangi recitals and classical singing.
Violin player Rajas Upadhyay presented Raag ‘Charukeshi’ and he was accompanied by Atul Kamble on tabla. Pakhawaj player Devashish Pathak presented Chau taal . Semi classical vocalist Megha Devnath presented three songs including ‘kati na virah ki raat…’ and ‘Hamri atariya pe aao sanwarian…’ which left the audience spellbound. It was based on Raag ‘Peelu’ and ‘Bhairavi’. The performance of Deep Das Mahant, Mansi Deshpande, Kalyan Majumdar Hasmukh Patdiya also enchanted the music lovers. The programme concluded with the melodious performance of Sarangi player Waseem Khan from Bhopal. He presented vilambit and drut ek and teen tall in raag ‘Yaman’. He was accompanied by Nafees Ahmed on Tabla. The programme was conducted by senior announcer of AIR Bhopal Arvind Soni and Amita Trivedi.
