BHOPAL : The Bhopal District Consumer Forum has ordered Air China to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation to former Governor of Manipur and Nagaland ON Shrivastava.
The Forum found Air China Limited, which is the flagship carrier of the People’s Republic of China, guilty of deficiency in service. Shrivastava, along with his wife Nini, had travelled to St. Francisco (USA) by Air China Limited flight on May 30, 2013. He had told the Airlines staff in advance that he should be provided vegetarian meals and the couple should be allotted adjacent seats in the aircraft. But they were allotted separate seats and were not provided food as per their demand. So for 12 hours, they had to go without food and could not take their medicines.
The former governor had filed a claim in the district consumer forum, which awarded a compensation of Rs 50,000 against Air China limited. Advocate EA Qureshi, who appeared on behalf of ex-Governor Srivastava said, “When they boarded in plane they came to know that they have been allotted separate seats 30-L and 30-H. They were not provided food as per their demand and they could not take medicines for 12 hours. They are 70-plus. The Forum, in a landmark judgment, awarded a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the couple.”
