Bhopal: Ram Van Gaman Path Yatra of the Congress has hit poll code roadblock in MP. Late on Tuesday evening, the chariot was seized and convener booked for poll code violation in Dindori. However, distancing itself from the event, the Congress said “It’s not our Yatra.” Following BJP complaint alleging violation of model code, the administration in Dindori district stopped the yatra, before seizing its chariot and escort vehicle. A case of poll code violation was also registered by local administration against Yatra’s convener and Congress leader Harishankar Shukla after finding poll code violations allegations prima facie correct.

SDM Dindori Amit Bamrauliya informed Free Press on Wednesday, “We received a complaint around 8.30 pm on Tuesday along with video clips containing statements of Yatra’s convener Harishankar Shukla. Complainant Tekeshwar Sahu alleged that the convener was using religious yatra to arouse religious sentiments and polarize voters against a particular political party (ruling BJP)”. “The complaint was vetted and video clips were converted into CD format, after which the video clips were analysed. “The allegations of poll code violations were found prima facie true. As Section 144 of IPC already imposed in Dindori since October 6, organizers had to take prior permission for the yatra.

However, they failed to do so. Hence, a case of poll code violation was lodged against Yatra convener Harishankar Shukla under Section 188 of the IPC, besides Section 123(3) and 125 of Representation of People Act” added Bamroliya. Peeved over the development, Yatra convener and Congress leader Harishankar Shukla said on Wednesday that if the chariot was not released soon, he along with sadhus participating in the yatra would squat in police station concerned and recite Ram Dhun as mark of protest.Shukla also claimed that they were only singing Ram Dhun and Bhajans and not raising any political slogans in the yatra. The ambitious Ram Van Gaman Path Yatra which was started by Congress from Hindu pilgrimage Chitrakoot on October 2 aims at tracing the roots of Ram- Sita-Laxman’s exile journey and is a precursor to Congress’ poll related promise of building Ram Van Gaman Path connecting all important hotspots through which the holy trinity is believed to have traversed during the 14 years exile journey.

‘BJP uses Rama to cling to power, but jails His followers’

congress state media president Sobha oza said, “it’s not a congress Yatra. trustee of the ‘Purana Lanka Dham Ashram’ harishankar Shukla is taking out the Yatra”. She claimed that the incident has brought bJP’s dual face to fore. While the party wants to remain in power by using the name of Rama, the real followers of the Lord are being sent to jail on its workers’ complaint.” She said that the party would file a complaint with the eci in this regard. chief electoral officer VL Kantharao said, “today morning we came to know from newspaper and the detailed report has been sought from Dindori collector”.
