Change fogging chemical: Central team to state

Bhopal: Central team of Union Health ministry is not happy with state government’s fogging pattern to tackle Zika virus (ZIKV) in the state. Bhopal CMHO Dr Sudhir Jashani said, “Central team is in MP to observe the situation. The team is not happy with fogging pattern in the state. The team has suggested that the chemical being used for fogging be changed, especially for outdoor areas. Currently, the chemical which is used for fogging is suitable for in-door areas or covered areas.”

Team of experts: Union health ministry has sent a team comprising of experts from the national centre for disease control (NCDC) and the emergency medical response (EMR) to MP to confirm and verify reports of Zika virus cases in the state. The team will assist the MP government to replicate the measures and action plan to prevent any possible outbreak of Zika.

The team was sent following the news about three persons being detected with Zika virus. The team held series of meeting with health department officials. Notably, the health department has already issued high alert in mid-October in the state over ZIKV.

Zika & dengue: Similarity of symptoms, carrier
Because the symptoms of Zika infection is similar to that of dengue and spreads through mosquito bites, it raises concerns. The state health department has been asked to keep a close watch on people suffering from symptoms of the vector -borne disease. Zika virus, transmitted through the Aedes aegypti mosquito. It is same mosquito which spread dengue and chikengunya, CHMO added.
