BHOPAL : When the CBI took over the investigations into the Vyapam scam, there were speculations that the agency may take years to complete the probe. But the CBI is out to prove the speculations wrong. The agency has decided to begin with the controversial cases, so that investigations can be completed as soon as possible.

The CBI has already filed a case in the death of Namrata Damor and has started investigations. Probe has also been initiated into the deaths of journalist Akshay Singh and pharmacist Vijay Singh Patel.

Damor’s death was suspicious from the very beginning. Mystery has further deepened with forensic expert Dr BS Badkul holding that she had committed suicide. The postmortem report of Damor had stated that she was murdered. The probe into death of Damor may expose yet another racket that was flourishing in Vyapam.

The death of journalist Akshay Singh had generated country-wide furore. Sources in CBI maintain that probe in the case would progress once the viscera report of the dead journalist is in. The CBI also suspects that Patel was murdered and it is not satisfied with the investigations done by the Kanker Police. Patel’s mobile phone was not found in his room but no efforts were made to trace his phone by the police.

As far as probe into irregularities in Vyapam examinations is concerned, investigations have begun with the Forest Guards recruitment examination. The name of Governor Ramnaresh Yadav had also surfaced in this case. STF had even filed an FIR against Yadav, which was quashed by the High Court.

CBI might not have lodged an FIR against Yadav but it is investigating his role in this case. A CBI officer maintain that the case is open and if required more people would be made accused.

Meanwhile, the agency, on Wednesday filed FIRs in Transport Constables Recruitment scam. Congress had leveled allegations against State Goverment in this case but STF, after its probe, had rejected them. CBI intends to complete investigations soon and bring truth to the fore.

It also filed FIRs in Weights and Measures Inspectors and Junior Food Supply officer’s recruitment cases. The name of former RSS chief K. Sudarshan had emerged in the Food Supply Officer Recruitment case.

Sources said CBI was going to file FIR in Contractual Teachers Grade-II Recruitment soon and start investigations. Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh had alleged that in the Excel Sheet of the test, ‘CM’ was written at 48 places.

Special Investigations Team (SIT), after probing into these allegations, submitted its report in the High Court, which was admitted.

This case would also be investigated by CBI and it would re-examine the hard disc of accused Nitin Mahindra’s computer and the pen drive given by Digvijay Singh. Sources said CBI is picking up high-profile and controversial cases from amongst the 185 cases registered by STF and Police SITs so far.
