Face problems in getting jobs, passport
Bhopal: A case was filed against two junior doctors of Gandhi Medical College recently for allegedly beating up attendants of a patient. There had been several incidents in the past when a case had been registered against junior doctors for confronting patients and the rise in the complaints against these doctors is concerning because it can becomes an obstacle in their career.
If a case is left pending, there is a huge possibility that these doctors will not get passport clearance for traveling abroad for higher studies or conferences, they will not be awarded their degrees and securing a government job also becomes difficult.
According to BL Mandloi, TI Koh-e-Fiza Police station, every week 4-5 complaints are received against junior doctors for misbehaving with patients and every month at least 3-4 FIR are filed. “There have been cases where the case is sub judice due to some or the other reason because of which during police verification, passport applications have been rejected. Not only this, a week back we received a call from Ayush department enquiring about the clearance of the court case against two doctors. These two doctors have completed their PG but they have yet not received their degrees because of the case against them”, said Mandloi.
Dr Aditya Lunawat, president, Junior Doctors Association, GMC supporting the doctors said, “We have to handle a lot of patients and most of the time, the misbehaviour of patients’ attendants causes this reaction. In the recent case too, the attendant of the patient provoked the doctors on duty by using abusive language.”
Dr Ulka Shrivastav, dean, GMC said that we have tried to control this behaviour of junior doctors but they are also humans, who are under pressure of studying and handling patients at the same time. “This kind of behaviour can harm their career. We have talked to them and asked them to handle the situations wisely because the patient is also mentally not very healthy to often judge right or wrong”, she said. Due to a rise in such cases the hospital management has now increased the number of guards in the hospital to keep check upon the number of attendants with the patients so that this kind of situation could be avoided in future.
