BHOPAL : A case was filed on Wednesday in court of JMFC Radhakrishna Malviya against Dwarka Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati for saying that Sai Baba should not be worshipped as he was a human being and not a god.One of Sai Baba disciples, Sandeep Sanver of Ashoka Garden, has filed the suit.  Advocate Mahendra Verma is the petitioner’s counsel. The case will come up for hearing on July 10.

According to the petitioner, on June 23, Swaroopanand had said that “Worshipping Sai Baba was a conspiracy to divide the Hindus. Sai Baba should not be worshipped as he was a human being and not a God, and his temples should not be built.”

“Sai Baba used to say Sabka Malik Ek (god is one for all). If so, why do Buddhists and Jains worship separate gods?” Swaroopanand asked, but acknowledged Sai Baba as a “great man”. “By building temples, Sai Baba’s disciples are making mockery of the great man, who was a human being and not a god.” Shankaracharya had added that Sai Baba devotees were free to worship the latter, but then they should not go to Hindu temples, not take the name of Ram and should not take holy dip in Ganga.

Swaroopanand comment had hurt feeling of Sai Baba disciples as they were telecast on TV channels and all over the country. It was also published in print media. Complainant had also gone to police station, Ashoka Garden to lodge complaint but police had refused to register the plaint.
