Dhar : Due to lack of tolerance and increasing incivility in people, today the cartoons and satires are battling for the survival in media. The present media is also lacking the courageous editors, cartoonists and satirists, who dare to publish pungent cartoons and satires. This was said by renowned scribe and editor-in-chief of Free Press Shravan Garg.

He was addressing a symposium organised on the occasion of National Press Day here on Monday. Former director of Public Relation Department Suresh Tiwari and poet Sandeep Sharma also addressed during the function. District Collector Jayashree Kiyawat presided over the function.

The topic of the symposium was ‘Abhivyakti ke madhyam ke roop mei cartoon and vyang chitro ka prabhav aur mahatva’. Highlighting the topic, Garg said that the cartoons and satires have its own importance in the media forever. But, it is a matter of concern that today the new cartoonists and satirists are not coming in media and the present media is facing shortage of the cartoonists and satirist caliber of RK Laxman, Shankar, Harishankar Parsai and Sharad Joshi.

While addressing on the occasion, Collector Jayashree Kiyawat said that the cartoon and satire beckon the mistakes of the person without the intention of insulting him or her. The impact of such cartoon and satire remains forever, she said.

During the function, chief guest Shravan Garg and Suresh Tiwari were felicitated by offering ‘shawl and shreephal’ and presenting the autobiography ’Wings of fire’ of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam,. The citation letters were read out by District Women Empowerment Officer Subhash Jain and District Urban Development Authority Project Officer

RS Mandloi. Aruna Bauda conducted the function and Deputy Director Information Shravan Kumar Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
