Met office issues alert for heavy rain in Vindhya region
BHOPAL : A bridge in Rewa district was washed away by the swollen Tamas River on Tuesday morning snapping road connectivity of 23 villages to the district headquarters. Many regions in Madhya Pradesh are inundated due to floods as the state has been receiving heavy rainfall since quite long.
Rewa district administration has declared holiday in schools for Tuesday and even on Wednesday. However, how many people have been affected has not been estimated.
Alert has been issued for heavy rain in Satna, Rewa, Panna, Chhatarpur and Sidhi districts for the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at a few places over Damoh, Katni, Jabalpur and Umaria districts.
Ajaygarh recorded 14cm of rainfall while Nagod recorded 12cm and Panna recorded 9cm in the last 24 hours. Hanumana recorded a rainfall of 8cm while Jabalpur, Maihar and Rewa recorded 7cm rainfall. Khajuraho recorded 6cm while Katni and Gud recorded 5cm rainfall in the last 24 hours.
Deputy Collector, flood cell in-charge (Rewa), Kamlesh Puri said, “As the bridge on Tamas River collapsed, 23 villages have been affected due to excessive rain. Rescue operation has been launched at war footings. Several families have been shifted to schools for safety point of views. Mainly Tyothar, Jawa and Simaria have been worst affected.”
