BHOPAL : The crime branch police in a bid to stop the illegal betting on Indian Premiere League (IPL) matches raided two different localities in the city on Monday night and arrested four bookies off guard when they were involved in receiving bets on the ongoing match.

According to sources, police had been getting tip offs about persons involved in illegal betting in the IPL matches. Acting on the tip off a raid was conducted at the house a former bookie Shankar Lal Rajani alias Lallu, 50, son of Parmanand Rajani, situated at Radha Appartment, Teela Jamalpura. The police were tipped that the former bookie had been accepting bets on IPL matches. They adopted a new tactic, his family members used to lock the main door of the house from outside and leave the place as soon as the match started. He and one of his accomplice locked in the house would accept the bets on their mobile. The police laid a siege and entered the house where Rajani and Prakash Sarathe, 25, son of Girvar Sarathe, resident of Bag Dilkusha, were involved in accepting betting. The police seized six mobile phones, one LED TV, a diary and a set top box from their possession.

The second raid was conducted at Jehangirabad where the crime branch had got a tip off about a fruit vendor involved in betting. The cops laid a siege and arrested Asadullah Khan, son of Nasrullah Khan, resident of Jehangirabad.

He confessed that he works on commission basis for Shariq Khan, son of Mohammed Rafiq Khan, resident of Jehangirabad. The police then laid a siege and arrested Shariq Khan also. The police seized around Rs 15,500 and documents from them.
