BHOPAL: Doctors and staffers of Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) demonstrated and took out rally on Saturday in support of their demands- including regularisation of their appointments after considering their seniority prior to the government taking over the facility. For the last three years since ICMR taking over the BMHRC, no promotion has allegedly been given as there are no rules and regulation for deciding seniority. The service rules were cleared by the Union Department of Personnel and Training 15 February but the Department of Health and Welfare of the Central government is sitting on the file. BMHRC has always been consistently facing crisis of medical experts. Presently, BMHRC has 3 professors, 25 assistant professors, 2 associates, 30 medical officers and 7 senior medical officers. This number is, however, not sufficient for conducting PG courses at the hospital. BMHRC employees enjoy the support of Bhopal Gas Pidhit Sangharsh Sahyog Samiti, Centre for Indian Trade Union, Central employee association and Insurance union. BMHRC Employees Association president Shashi Kant Sharma said, ” Our strike is on and today we took out rally from BMHRC to Karond Chowraha and back to BMHRC in protest against the delay in the fulfillment of our demands.   For the last four years, we are being given only assurances. Now we want concrete decision from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).”
