BHOPAL: The Election Commission (EC) is trying out a new formula of roping in BLO (Booth Level Officer) and BLA (Booth Level Agent) to prepare an error free voter list. Chief Election Commissioner, Sunil Arora had recently said political parties should also participate and ensure that error free electoral roll is prepared in the first stage itself.

CEC said booth level agents of political parties should accompany the booth level officer during his field visit for revision of the voters list. This would avoid unwarranted controversies related to the voters list which crop up later. A senior official from MP office said this is an old practice that was not taken seriously by the political parties but now with close contests and controversies related to voters list; it will be followed more rigorously.

The revision of the electoral roll for upcoming Lok Sabha elections has started. First publication of electoral photo identity card (EPIC) would be done from December 26. Persons who attain age of 18 years by January 1, 2019 will be entitled to get enrolled as a voter. Claims and objections during revision of the electoral rolls would be entertained till January 25, 2019. All objections would be finalised by January 11. First supplementary publication would be done on February 18 after database, control table and photographs are update. Final updated publication of electoral rolls would be done on February 22.
