HOSHANGABAD: A bicycle rally was organised on the occasion of World Environment Day on Thursday in which district collector Rahul Jain also participated. Large number of school students along with local residents and public representatives took part in the rally. The rally started from Sethani Ghat and wending through various parts of the city reached the Nehru Park where an environmental meeting was organised by the Janabhiyan Parishad and NGO’s. Chairman of the municipality council Maya Narolia, deputy chief of the state of Janabhyan Parishad Pradeep Pandey, SDM Rajesh Shahi, Praveen Pawar, Pandit Girimohan, Akhilesh Khandelwal and others were present in the meeting.

Addressing the meeting Jain said that for the conservation of the environment awareness along with harmony with nature is required. On the occasion Jain administered the students and citizen to take a pledge. He said that every person present in the meeting should take a resolution that he would plant atleast ten trees would not use polythene and use cycle for commuting as much as possible. He said that awareness should be spread for the conservation of the environment.

Pandey said that the nature is our mother and we should continuously strive to conserve it. Naroliya said that we should plant more and more trees and look after them so that they survive. Global warming is the greatest challenge faced today by the world due to the imbalance in the environment. She also emphasised to control the consumption of polythene.
