Bhopal: Dense to very dense fog has begun to disrupt normal life in plains of northern and eastern regions of the state. Very dense fog enveloped Gwalior and Chambal divisions dropping the visibility to zero on Thursday. The excess moisture also unleashed rains and brought down temperature in many parts of the state.
Many pockets of state specially Mahakaushal and Vindhya experienced rain and hailstorm later in the afternoon. State capital also witnessed dense fog with the visibility dropping to 50 meters at 6:30am. Districts of Rewa, Sagar, Gwalior, Chambal divisions are likely to remain covered by thick fog. Bhopal, Rajgarh, Jabalpur, Neemuch, Shajapur, Mandla districts are likely to experience similar condition.
Satna, Rewa, Sidhi, Singrauli, Seoni-Malwa, Shahdol experience rain with hailstorm on Thursday. In next 24 hours, rain accompanied with hailstorm is likely to occur at Rewa, Shahdol, Sagar, Jabalpur divisions, Gwalior, Chambal and Neemuch and Mandsaur districts.
According to meteorological department, a fresh western disturbance and its interaction with a trough in easterlies is likely to cause scattered to fairly wide spread rainfall and isolated thunderstorms accompanied with hailstorms over parts of Eastern parts of state and nearby other areas.
Agriculture expert have dubbed the rains which many parts of state experienced in last few days as good for Rabi crops specially wheat and grams, however, they said that hail accompanying it is harmful for the crop at this stage. Rain generated by a prevailing western disturbance would start to subside from Thursday but a successor would open a new weather front over Madhya Pradesh and parts of Central India from Friday-Saturday.
Night minimum temperatures are very likely to fall gradually by 3-4°C over northwest parts of country and adjoining central India during next 4 days resulting in the re-establishing cold wave conditions over these regions in the next four to five days. Dense to very dense fog at isolated places are also very likely over these regions during the morning hours of January 25 and January 26.
