BHOPAL: A 24-year-old man was booked by police allegedly for attempting suicide by inflicting injuries on himself with a blade on Wednesday late night at Habibganj locality. The accused who injured himself in the toilet of the police station after being granted permission to attend nature’s call was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is now stable, police said.

According to police, the accused, Anshul alias Bhuri Singh, was a history-sheeter in TT Nagar police station. He was released from jail one week ago only but was again arrested by police on Wednesday night for allegedly attacking a man with a sword during a brawl at a restaurant at 7 number area. The injured man and complainant Aman Verma, 27, had told the police that he had come out of the restaurant with his friends when suddenly the accused Singh along with his accomplice Ankit Shukla came to the spot and started abusing him followed by a brawl.

Singh who was having an old rivalry with Verma, demanded Rs 2000 from him for liquor which Verma refused. Enraged with the refusal, Singh then attacked Verma with a sword in which he sustained injuries on his head and wrist. However Singh told the police that he along with his friend was present at the spot when Verma came with his brother Yash Verma and started abusing him for no reason. When he protested, Yash attacked him with a heavy object on his head and hand. The police registered cases against both the parties. Investigations are on, added police.
