Bhopal: Workshop on interpretations of Eliot

BHOPAL: The Department of English of BSSS organised a national workshop on ‘Contemporary Interpretations of TS Eliot’ on Saturday. Prof. Abhijit Gupta from Jadavpur University and Prof. Sonjoy Dutta Roy from Allahabad University were present as speakers.

The first session was taken by Prof. Roy, in which he dealt with “Hundred Visions and Revisions of Eliot’s Poetry”. Roy is a Professor in the Department of English Studies, University of Allahabad

The second and third sessions were taken by Prof. Abhijit Gupta on “Eliot as Precursor of New Criticism/Formalism” and “Heap of Broken images in Eliot’s Plays”. Gupta graduated from the Jadhavpur University and did his Ph.D. from Cambridge. The programme concluded with a panel discussion in which the faculties of several colleges of Bhopal and outside participated enthusiastically.

Eliot is regarded the critic of the civil social order and the workshop was aimed at giving new insights through a comprehensive review of his selected works to improve and increase the understanding of his intricate thought process while enhancing familiarity with his prolific stylistic devices. Vice-principal of the School Dr. Sister Lissy Jose inaugurated the workshop and a vote of thanks was proposed by the course coordinator Sister Jasentha.
