Bhopal: Women commission pulls up school principal, teachers

BHOPAL: State Women’s Commission on Monday admonished principal and three teachers of Government Kamla Nehru Girls Higher Secondary School for quarrelling like school children. “What kind of example are you setting for students?” Anju Singh Baghel, member of the Commission said.

Baghel was presiding over the Commission’s joint bench on Monday in the absence of chairperson Lata Wankhede who is ill. Wankhede, whose term has ended, has been granted extension till the appointment of a new chairperson. The principal and three teachers of the school attended the hearing. The teachers, who were summoned by the Commission on the complaint of the principal, levelled allegations against the latter. The teachers said that she had spit on face of one of them, she calls them names, and she had hurled a notebook towards one of them.

They said that the principal had locked one of them in a room when she sought her permission to attend the hearing. They also claimed that the principal tells them that she cannot be harmed as she enjoys backing of top politicians. The principal, however, denied the allegation.

“This is horrible. It is nothing but an ego clash. This tamasha should end. I don’t want see you people here next time”, Baghel warned them. School principal Nisha Kamrani had complained to Commission that the husbands of the three teachers were “threatening” her. The teachers, when questioned, attacked the principal in unison.  Later, Baghel told newspersons that the Commission would write to the commissioner, school education, to sort out the issue.

The Commission heard other cases too. A group of 17 women employees of the MP State Open School Council had lodged a complaint that director Prabhat Raj Tiwari harassed them. After hearing both the parties, Commission decided to write to Commissioner, school education to conduct a probe. Another case of harassment at workplace at Gauravi- One Stop Centre – was also heard. A total of 32 cases including harassment at workplace, domestic violence and matrimonial disputes were listed for hearing. Of them, 16 cases were heard.

Have taken cognisance of Katare case

The Women’s Commission has taken cognisance of a woman journalism student charging Congress MLA Hemant Katare with rape. Commission member Baghel told media persons that the commission chairperson Lata Wankhede had taken a serious note of the incident the very day the woman had lodged a complaint through a letter to the DIG, Bhopal range. “The Commission has written to the DIG seeking a report within 15 days”, she said. She said that it was “worth pondering” why the police was unable to arrest Katare though it taken the woman into custody immediately.
