BHOPAL : The family of a 32-year-old woman allegedly tried to abduct her in broad daylight in a car on Thursday in TT Nagar. The victim was going with her husband and father-in-law when the incident happened. The police, however, denied that the family members were trying to ‘abduct’ her but said they were involved in an altercation with the woman on some issue.

According to sources, the woman (name not disclosed to hide identity), a resident of Jahangirabad got married to a boy of other religion about 10 years ago. She started living with her husband and in-laws in Raisen after marriage. On Thursday, she was going with her husband and father-in-law to Jahangirabad police station to record her statements in some old case involving her paternal family. Her family members were enraged since she married the man from another religion. They came to know that she was in the city after which they tried to abduct her in their car before manhandling her, her husband and father-in-law.

Before she could be abducted, the nearby TT Nagar police were alerted and reached the spot. They saved her and sent the family away after diffusing the tension. The woman later went to the police station and recorded the statement in the case. The investigation was later transferred to Jahangirabad police by TT Nagar police where a different case involving the two families was already under investigation, said sources.

“There was no abduction bid on the woman. The family was just upset that their daughter had married a man from other religion. After knowing that she was in the town they just went to meet her and talk about their concerns regarding the marriage. The woman who was to record her statement in an old case then came to the police station and recorded her statement. She also told the police that she was living with her husband as she wished to do so. The police then conveyed the same thing to her family and asked them to leave her alone after which they went back. No case of abduction was registered,” said sub-inspector, Jahangirabad police station, Rajendra Singh.
