BHOPAL: Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) staff’s wife was attacked with knife by another woman when the former objected to practicing ‘witchcraft’— splashing water and chanting mantras— whenever her husband and son ventured out of house. The incident occurred at Shivaji Nagar under MP Nagar police station area, over a weird issue that turned ugly when one of them attacked the other with a knife.
ASI Jaikaran Singh Rawal said, “Complainant Geeta Rawal, 48, wife of Mahendra Rawal, of 121 A/8 H-type, Shivaji Nagar in her complaint to the police said her husband was posted in Directorate of Public Instructions (DPI).
Accused Shashi Gupta, resides at 121A/5 H-type house located just in front of her house, along with her mother and brother. Her mother and brother are posted in Satpuda Bhawan.
Gita Rawal said Shashi Gupta had a habit of quarrelling with neighbours. She had a weird habit that whenever Rawal’s husband or children passed from in front of her house she threw water and chanted ‘Ram Nam Satya Hai’.
The incident took place around 9.30 am on Tuesday after Rawal’s son, Chandra Kumar Rawal, left for office by his bike. After he left Shashi Gupta as usual splashed water and chanted the mantra.
Rawal saw her doing this and came out. She objected to her act to which Gupta reacted aggressively. She started hurling abuses on her. When Rawal resisted, she became violent and went inside the house running. Then she returned with a knife in her hand.
Gupta attacked Rawal with the knife, injuring her left hand around elbow. Locals including neighbour Pravesh Pachori saw this and rushed for help. Subsequently Rawal reached the police station and filed a complaint. The police have registered a case on charges of causing hurt by sharp object against Gupta and started investigations.
