BHOPAL : The people of the state already consider Narmada as their mother but now the river would be given the status of a living person. This was announced by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Mandla during the Narmada Yatra.
Chouhan said a resolution to this effect would be placed before Vidhan Sabha in the next session. He said the initiative was aimed at equipping Narmada with her own rights.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh, who joined the Yatra on Monday, said PM Modi had decided to launch a campaign to clean all main rivers of the country by 2020 and a provision of Rs 20,000 crore had been made for it. He said the courts had also said that rivers should be given the status of a living person.
