Bhopal: The BJP has started preparing the strategy for wresting Chhindwara, Guna and Ratlam Lok Sabha constituencies from the Congress, even though assembly elections in the state are still more than a year away. Swatantradev Singh, minister for transport in the UP government has been made in-charge of the three constituencies.

Singh reached the city on Friday and held meetings with organisational leaders. He had a detailed consultation with state party president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan, organisational general secretary Suhas Bhagat and co-organisational general secretary Atul Rai at the residence of Nandkumar. He was briefed on the basic facts about the three constituencies. He pored over the history of victories and defeats in the three constituencies as also the caste configuration of the areas.

Singh also took a lowdown on the candidates fielded by the party and had a preliminary discussion on the strategy to be adopted for snatching the three seats from the Congress.

Talking to media persons, Singh said that he will tour the three constituencies, hold discussions with the workers and then workout the strategy. He said that an assessment of the ground situation was a must before drawing up any plans. He said that the party will get advantage of the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in these areas too.

The BJP has appointed in-charges for all the LS seats it had lost in the 2014 general elections. The in-charges have been mandated with reporting the ground situation in these constituencies to Amit Shah. Singh will soon tour these constituencies, spending two days in each of them.

Reacting to Singh, Congress’ chief spokesperson K.K. Mishra said that a person who could not save his own security deposit in the 2012 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh can hardly be expected to devise a winning strategy for others. He said that Singh was not even fielded in the 2017 elections, fearing that he may lose.
