Bhopal: In a much required relief to stressed and overworked police personnel, the new Chief Minister Kamal Nath has announced a weekly off for them. In his first ever meeting with DGP and other top police official at PHQ on Wednesday, Nath said that the cops would get one-day off in a week to de-stress and those not obtaining the off would be given an incentive in return. The police administration will be the final authority and the officials will evolve a system about the cops’ weekly-off, said the CM.
Nath interacted with the police top brass and took the stock of law and order in the state. DGP Rishi Kumar Shukla made a presentation of the department. During the presentation when the issue of naxalite and terrorism came, the CM asked the officers, “Are we facing the situation?” However, the officers chose to remain silent.
AT the start of the meeting, CM inquired from the officers their names, rank and posting time at the PHQ. Addressing them, CM said “I always ask the officers who are in my contact to first give respect to the uniform and then to others and also take action against the law breakers”. Later, speaking to media persons, Nath hinted on shifting police officials. “Some of the officials are sitting at one place for five years, this is not acceptable and they will be transferred,” said the chief minister.
Stressing on need to increase police budget, Nath said that the government will provide cutting- edge technology in the state to check crime and ensure law and order. To maintain communal harmony in the state is our priority and the role of police is very significant in keeping it intact, said Nath. “I have asked the officials to adopt zero tolerance policy in drug pedalling, betting and gambling. This will be the first step to check crime,” said Nath.
