BHOPAL: Poor planning and mismanagement have become synonymous with the implementation of demonetisation scheme.

Most of the banks are refusing to pay one-time cash of Rs 2.5 lakh to people with wedding needs in the ‘absence of RBI’s operational guidelines’.  It is noteworthy here that on Thursday, the government had announced the one time withdrawal for wedding related purposes but in reality people are not getting the facility.

Except SBI, most banks branches in the city are not allowing Rs 2.5-lakh withdrawals for marriages saying they are yet to receive instructions from the RBI or their superior offices.

“We are bound to obey the guidelines issued by the RBI but I am yet to get such instructions either from our head office or from the RBI. We are following all the directives issued by the RBI whether it is for exchanging, withdrawing or depositing money,” says R.K. Shrivastava, branch manager of Dena Bank, T.T. Nagar.

Prateek Vijayvargiye, Assistant General Manager, IDBI Bank says, “In the absence of operational guidelines from RBI, we are unable to allow withdrawal of Rs 2.5 lakh for marriage purposes. I think, not only us but other banks have also not received such guidelines.  We will start implementing the measure as soon as we get communication from the RBI.”

“We have not been officially informed so we are not implementing is as yet. For further queries you can contact our cluster head office,” said branch manager of HDFC Bank, T.T. Nagar. M.S. Arora, Asst. General Manager of  Punjab National Bank, T.T. Nagar declined comment on the issue saying that he was not authorised for it.

“No, we haven’t got any guideline regarding this form RBI,” said officials of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur and ICICI, T.T. Nagar.

“Yes we got notification from RBI through e-mail but no one has so far approached us with a request,” Preeti Singh, assistant manager, Corporation Bank, T.T. Nagar said.

SBI has cleared 7 to 8 cases

Yes, we are implementing the order from the first day. We were informed about it by our LHO and we have made the payments in 7-8 such cases,” says Anil Bhide, Assistant General Manager, SBI, T.T. Nagar.
