The day of test for political parties in the state has finally come. Political parties were working hard for the past one month for this day. Though there is no wave in the assembly polls this time, the election has become interesting. The BJP is eyeing a fourth straight term in office, while the Congress is hoping for a comeback in the state which was once its stronghold.

The anti-incumbency factor against the government does not appear intense. The support of people to the government is also not strongly visible. People have mixed reaction when it comes to the BJP and the Congress The silence adopted by the voters has left the political leaders nervous and poll experts anxious.

Congress and BJP both claim to form the government this time. The election scenario this time seems to be divided in various areas. The scenario in Malwa and Nimar than Vindhya is altogether different. Same is with Gwalior and Chambal. Mahakaushal and Bundelkhand have a different scenario.

The main feature of assembly polls this time is Congress contesting elections on the lines of the BJP, while the latter adopting the attitude of their rivals, the Congress. BJP is facing more dissent than the Congress.  Former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh played key role in diffusing resentment and Congress’ candidate selection was better than the past two assembly polls.

BJP’s focus in election was Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who addressed 149 election meetings. He also played a significant role in preparing election strategy and selection of candidates. The entire election is centered around Chouhan, he was at the centre of Congress’ election campaign. Congress targeted Chouhan more than it attacked the BJP government during its campaigning.  There is said to be close contest in assembly polls this time. BJP had won 165 seats in 2013 assembly polls whereas it got 143 seats in 2008. All eyes are set on the outcome of the polling this time.
