Bhopal: Election Commission has decided to do away with live webcasting of counting after objection by the Congress. EC has now decided not to allow any private Wifi connection in and around the strong room. About 2000 cameras will be installed across state at counting centres to keep eye on all employees engaged in counting. Cameras will start functioning from May 23- an hour before counting. Each counting centre will have 25-30 cameras depending on the size of counting hall and distance between strong room and counting hall.
Overall 319 counting halls are being prepared across the state for counting. Each counting hall will be covered by three cameras-installed in a manner that all counting tables be covered. A control room will be established at every counting centre to keep an eye on overall developments. The camera footage will be kept safe till 45 days with the election commission.
Camera will be installed in a way so that they will also cover transportation of EVMs from strong room to counting hall. Officials and agents of political parties engaged in counting work will be recorded in the CCTV. Counting will be done at 14 tables per constituency. Overall 3220 tables will put in use across the state for counting. More than 12000 government servants will be deployed for counting work.
