Bhopal: In a major decision, after taking over as Chief Minister, Kamal Nath appointed V K Singh as the new director general of police replacing Rishi Shukla on Tuesday. Deteriorating law and order in the state and Shukla’s falling health following a bypass surgery necessitated the appointment of a new official on the top post.
A 1984-batch officer, Singh is known for his non-controversial approach. Singh was assigned the charge of DGP during assembly polls in the state when Rishi Shukla had gone for his bypass surgery. Shukla was made Police Housing Corporation chairman, a post, which Singh had held before being appointed as new DGP.
