Bhopal: VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology) University, Bhopal, introduced a “Support the Advancement of Rural Students (STARS) Scheme” at Courtyard Marriott in the city on Monday. The university, from the academic year 2019-20, will provide completely free education and hostel facility to the top most ranked among male and female students from each district of Madhya Pradesh who have completed higher secondary education from the government schools in the state. According to the scheme, 104 male and female meritorious students of government schools from the 52 districts in the Madhya Pradesh will be given free education so that the students of the underprivileged and rural areas can afford top quality technical education in the courses they choose.
Talking to mediapersons, G Viswanathan, Chancellor, VIT Bhopal University, said, “A child should never be deprived of quality education owing to poverty. This forceful thought in my mind became the seed that gave birth to the innovative “STARS” scheme.” He said, “This scheme has been appreciated by Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister, Education Minster and all have assured their full support in making this scheme a success.” “Since, it is Hindi speaking state. So, we will also provide a special coaching of English to the students. Besides, we also have a plan to introduce eight foreign languages like French, German, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Japanese etc, in Bhopal soon.”
Kadambari S Viswanathan Assistant Vice-President briefed on the contribution of VIT Bhopal University to the state of Madhya Pradesh. “The Vellore Institute of Technology, which ranks amongst the top educational institutions in the country, has two years back established the VIT Bhopal University imparting high quality technical education and integrated development to the students,” she said.Vice Chancellor P Gunasekaran welcomed the participants and gave vote of thanks.
