Bhopal: Protection of animals from cold wave has kept Van Vihar National Park administration on toes. Cold wave is sweeping entire Madhya Pradesh, especially state capital and Van Vihar National Park has claimed to have done its best for the protection of animals and their babies from winter.
Arrangement of blowers, infra-red lamps, straw-sheds, curtains and otherarrangements have been made in Van Vihar National Park for protection ofanimals from cold wave. Even diet of animals has been enhanced, so that animalswould fight the extreme winter.
In forest, animals themselves manage protection from extreme weather, especially from winter. But for animals in captivity like National Park orsanctuary, the onus lies on administration to protect them from weather.Precaution, as per Van Vihar officials, is needed keeping the age of theanimals. Similarly, so special attention is given for cubs and babies of otheranimals found in nearby areas of Bhopal, Obedullaganj, Sehore, Vidisha andRaisen.
Director Van Vihar Samita Rajora said, “In Van Vihar National Park, animals are in captivity, so they do not have any option to protect themselves from extreme weather like winter. So we make arrangement like installation of blowers, straw shed, wooden –bed (takhat), etc for carnivores (tigers). Similarly, infra-red lamps have been fitted for reptiles like tortoise to keep them warm. Even diet has been increased so that animals would fight the winters. All animals are called in their shelters or shed by the evening. They are not allowed to venture out in night otherwise they will get exposure to extreme cold wave.”
